• Use the currency converter below to find the current exchange rates. Note that when you exchange money in Mexico, the rate will vary depending on where you exchange it. The best places are usually currency exchange houses and ATM's, followed by the banks themselves. The worst places are usually hotels and other tourist places.
  • ATM's are widespread throughout Mexico, and if you're drawing from one of the global networks, such as Visa, Mastercard, or American Express (look for the logo on your card), you can tap into your home bank account, although the ATM's will only dispense Pesos.
  • It's generally better to carry and spend Pesos than foreign currency. While US Dollars (as well as Canadian Dollars, UK Pounds, and the Euro) are often accepted in Mexico, especially in the Free Zone, you will often end up spending less in Pesos. Try to carry smaller denominations too, as obtaining change from vendors for larger bills can sometimes be a problem.
  • Tipping for services in Mexico is generally around 15% (like in the US). It is customary to tip gas station attendants. You are usually not expected to tip cab drivers. Tips for hotel service people should be about the same as you would elsewhere.
